GOTS ORGANIC COTTON
Cotton is a natural fibre that is breathable, light and soft – it’s a comfortable fabric to wear. Organic cotton is grown without insecticides, pesticides and fertilisers and uses less water than conventional cotton. We use GOTS certified organic cotton it has very strict standards to achieve certification that go beyond just the fabric and address sustainability and ethical issues along the whole supply chain.
Tencel is a cellulose fibre made from sustainably grown eucalyptus trees in a closed loop production process that uses less water and energy than cotton. Tencel is considered one of the most sustainable fabrics on the market. It’s breathable, soft on the skin, feels luxurious and absorbs moisture (50% more than cotton) and is naturally hygeinic so can be worn more times odor-free than other fabrics.
On some of our labels you will see 5% elastane. We use elastane because it adds durability and helps keep better shape of the clothing. We find clothes with elastane last longer and this is important as we are conscious of the resources that go into making new clothes (we want to make sure our pieces last as long as possible to delay a new purchase). GOTS acknowledges this too and allows their organic certification if there is 5% or less other material.
HOW TO WASH AND CARE FOR OUR FABRICS
Our fabrics have a standard jersey shrinkage rate of 5% particularly for the pure organic cotton. When shrinkage happens it occurs mainly in the length of the product rather than width so we have added an extra few cm in length to these pieces. Also, our fabrics have not been treated with additional chemicals so please avoid washing in high temperatures or placing in the dryer as the product will shrink more than 5%. We recommend cool wash and line dry.
